Hello,

Can anyone recommend an 'aerial specialist' in the Tomar/Coimbra area. I am trying to get advice on boosting my 3G/4G signal.

Appreciate any suggestions.

Best wishes
Gerry

Be aware!

Do not confuse "wifi signal" with 3G/4G signal.

Two different types of radio technologies.

3G/4G is Mobile Network Tech & requires different antennas to wifi antennas & boosters. It can also require special kit to correctly align the unit the antenna sending the signal.

There may also be restrictions on mounting such equipment.

Castro Electronica near Espinho do sell some kit. You could give them a shout & they may know someonein your area.

Many thanks barlaventoexpert.

Not sure if I understand the technicalities correctly but my wifi router is not hard wired and receives 3G/4G from our nearest mobile antenna. I can get 5-6 mbps download speed but I'm told I can boost this with an outdoor antenna, hence my query.

Will try Castro Electronica, looks like they have the right equipment. Thanks again.

5-6Mbs is the speed you can expect from a good 3G connection. This link https://www.4g.co.uk/how-fast-is-4g/ gives a good summary of the situation in the UK.
Try moving your router to a place that has a better view of the nearest radio mast.
Does your router have a socket for an external aerial? If not you will have problems connecting one.
These signals do not travel well through buildings or trees.
If the router is portable, do a test nearer to the local radio mast.

Move your existing router to the corner of the house nearest the mast and next to the top of a window that could in theory look directly at the nearest mast. Then you are making the best of what you have. Turn it off, then on after 10 minutes so it connects freshly and leave for a few days to notice if you see any difference. Weather and atmosphere can play a part etc.

But what you are saying is also correct, you can get equipment that might 'boost' the signal you on our router, so from a 3G to 4G signal etc. I have one in my 4x4 in Africa and it works pretty well (I leave it off 99% of the time and only turn on when needed as I assume its not healthy in some way!). This is another example of what you can do (In Australia etc).

I use a Fullband MIMORAD. Speeds are a little higher but much more stable.
Make sure connections on router are same as antenna :)

£75 including delivery from the UK as a starting point:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/MIMORAD%C2%AE- ... B071HPPBDT

Out of interest, do any of the Mobile companies offer a truly unlimited mobile data deal now?
Currently I would use 200-300GB per month as I have fibre to my house, but looking to move and would like to know if with a signal booster that provides 4G I'd still be able to continue as per 'normal' or would I constantly annoyed by having to switch sim cards and so on?

Thanks so much for all the replies. My router is as near as it can be to the signal mast but there is a big hill in the way......

I will probably try the outdoor aerial suggested by PortofaKiwi - worth a shot for 75 quid.

So frustrating because we know there is fibre within 2 kms of the house but trying to get MEO to connect us is another story.

For our 3G/4G router we have unlimited data as part of our MEO package. When I enquired about getting the same for my mobile phone - they just laughed......

Thanks again all

Try NOS or Vodafone for the fibre?
Who is your 3g/4g router through etc? Meo?
