Hello Everybody
i am a now and then poster on here and always grateful for advice.
i have a Friend who,s a Freelance Journalist in Italy
and he has been offered a lucrative contract by a Very very well known Global Satellite company. but one of the proviso,s is that he is resident in either PT or SPAIN or UK but not Italy. (not sure why yet)
and he has asked me to find out whether he would be able to have some kind of "virtual" residency. whereby he is seen as resident in another country (pt) but lives and works in Italy.
i assume he will get paid in Euros so the bank may not be important.
If he knows he can get residency here and live there, he is willing to buy a house if he needs a permanent address.
i am just interested if anyone can point out the holes in the idea or is it more straight forward than it sounds.
Thanks for any input

Depending on your friends income Gibraltar may be worth looking at if it satisfies his employer.
Gibraltar Category 2 Status
* Capped tax liability based on £70,000 of taxable income.
* Maximum annual tax payable under £26,000.
* Minimum annual tax payable of £20,000.
* No requirement to disclose worldwide income.
* Spouse and family income may be included.
* No minimum physical presence requirement in order to retain residency.
*Figures for 2009/2010 tax year

but Google:- "Gibraltar Category Two" for other opinions _________________ Today people want all their rights without the responsibilities that go with them. |

He can get residency here without any problems, providing he ia a EU citizen, his problem is that he should "reside" here for 3 months (the same applies to any EU country) to qualify for Residency.
He can be a Resident here and work in another EU country, how tax situation works depends on his contract, he also needs to check on NatIns aspect, think he would only need to pay in Italy.
For residency he would need
A Fiscal Number
An address rented or purchased
Reside for 3 months
It would be in his interests to find out why? PT, ES,or UK maybe something to do with costs of employing an Italian Resident.
This link gives you all the EU laws to living and working within EU

But if he's going to be living and working in Italy, would he not be obliged to register his presence there after 3 months and therefore be officially resident there? (as one can only be resident in one EU country at a time).
The business of why not Italy wouldn't have anything to do with Silvio Berlusconi, by any chance? |

OP was asking about spefically about ES, PT and UK, so didn't think Gibraltar would be an option. He can be resident here or any EU State but work in another, a lot would depend on his contract and whether he is a migrant worker or cross border worker.
Your totally right you can only be a Resident of 1 country at a time, but if your still working as above.
Which is why he needs to find out the Global Sat Co's reasoning and terms. |

chas & linda,
Totally agree that the original request was for ES, PT or UK but that may or not be because other options were not to be considered. Until someone clarifies that we will not know.
However can you explain who Global Sat Co is as as surfing with that name brings up too many amswers. _________________ Today people want all their rights without the responsibilities that go with them. |

Doesn't an individual need a minimum net worth of £2 million to claim Cat 2 residency?
There is always Jersey.... |
