Can anyone recommend a supplier of shrubs and fruit trees near Lousa.

I'm looking for cherry, apple, hazel, black currant, red currant and blackthorn (sloe) initially.

Also can anyone recommend a fast growing, coppicable tree/shrub for fencing. Anything that can produce 3-5cm, straight, rot resistant poles around a metre or two long (pygmy goat fencing). Could even go for a living fence if it has the right growth behaviour.

I'd be really grateful if you have any info on prices to expect, time of year to buy (eg, if they don't have them now when should I expect them), time to plant and so on.

Anything unusual you'd recommend?

Hi Peter,

Went there and there seems to be acres of olive, camelia and a few avocado. Nothing else I could see and I spent a fair amount of time there. Didn't see a single person I could ask (lunchtime). Is there a shop or something on the site (could you put a pin in it if so)?

It looked more like a wholesaler type nursery specialising in a very few species.

When was t you bought your lemon and lime trees? Maybe it's changed since then.

Any alternative suppliers to the tiny garden centre in Lousa?

Hi Victoria1st

Looks interesting. I'll see if it can survive my -5C frosts.

Hi Arlo

I like tropical fish and most of what i like have no common name just a latin name. If you have an Ipad or similar use Google tradatur to ask for what you want. But do a Google search for the latin and translate into a question. Also put the tree name into Google and then add Wiki.

With all the information you get go back but not at lunch time. Show what you want and if they don't understand English show them your Ipad with what you want On the picture i have added i have also put pins about a couple of K away yo where they have more trees.

As you face where i have put the office pin to the right is where almost every kind of fruit tree was a few months ago when i took someone to get some fruit trees.

This nursey i am told supplies most of Portugal with trees.

Best of luck

Peter

Thanks Peter, very grateful for the effort.

I'll go back there outside of lunchtime.

Translation wasn't the problem (I can do the Latin or Portuguese for what I was looking for). It's just there were only 3 species in over 2 acres of greenhouses I went through.

That office was closed up, I'll try next week.

iPad - hmm, wouldn't touch Apple if you gave it to me. Linux day-to-day and Windows when forced to.
