Is there much backlash in the community against these draconian measures? 

Here in the UK there is a loud contingent who think that the erosion of liberty is far more frightening than the virus. I would have though in a country that been impacted so much less that there would be even more?

At the moment we are still doing research.. I'll be tempted to go for the D7 and NHR route post Brexit. The difficult part for us will be deregistering as UK tax residents. Looks like a UK tax year in Portugal with few to no visits back to the UK will be required as we don't want to sell our UK house yet.
