Hi all!

Any recommendations for restaurants in Cascais?  We are visiting for a couple of days on our scouting trip in June and have a birthday dinner we need to plan.  No food restrictions!!

Thanks in advance!!

I was recommended (but still haven't tried) "Casa Velha" (Av. Valbom, 1), and "Skipper" (Marina de Cascais, 35). Both in Cascais, the first one basically in the center, the other one in the marina.

@antonio_f I believe Casa Velha may be closed for renovations at the moment. I walked by it about a week ago.

We just ate at https://goo.gl/maps/YKz831aqhxfj2pGb8  O Viriato on Wednesday. We cleared our plates. We had the salmon, tuna salad, and Secretos de Porco Preto.

If you want a Ocean view and reasonably priced food then we always go to https://goo.gl/maps/ev1V2EAE7ps4HmMn6 The Beach Club. They only take cash and MBWay. They are locals and a little finicky about things, but we have been going for so long that we fit right in. The shared salad is good and I had the Roto chorizo plate (something like that) which was good. You can always default to a mista.

Still exploring but I can recommend Kafeine in the Marina, Nicolau Cascais, Coffee Shop 292, and Milkees/Gleba for light fare, tea, breakfasts, etc. I've had some of the best pizzas ever at +39 Pizzeria Napolitana, but that's not really walkable from the city center. If you like barbeque, I found Somos Um Regalo by following the aroma; I haven't tried it yet (the line was too long for me to stand), but I've since heard good things and it's across the street from O Viriato.

@suzired22 We live in Estoril (next town over) and eat in Cascais regularly - do you have a type of food and/or budget in mind? Generally, Cascais is a resort town (like Santa Barbara or Carmel in California) and attracts a lot of expats and tourists, meaning downtown has a mix of rather upscale restaurants as well as tourist traps (pizza/fast food/overpriced). If you want more local/budget-friendly places you need to get out of the immediate downtown area. If you don't mind a slightly pricey place for good food/service, there is Hifen for good Portuguese tapas with a view, Mar do Inferno for excellent seafood with a view (but slightly outside the town), Visconde da Luz for good Portuguese food of all kinds (right in town), and lots of others like that - generally in the 100+ per couple (with wine) range. Remember you don't need to add 30% for tax and tip here - 5-10% is plenty. There are also some decent places on the waterfront towards Estoril, but with touristy prices (but what a view with your meal!). A bit inland from the waterfront you'll find more traditional Portuguese places and the prices are more wallet-friendly, but the ambience also reflects the prices, e.g. Dom Fausto opposite city hall. If you provide more specific likes/dislikes I can recommend others.

@zoom Thank you!! This is great information!  As it turns out, are actually staying in Estoril...  We like all kinds of food and have no food restrictions.  Pricey for some meals is A OK...  We will have a car - not sure about parking but if we need to drive that works!  Our fancy friend is traveling with us for this portion of the trip so fancy is good!!   These sound great!!

@suzired22 If you make it to Lisbon then our restaurant of choice for special occasions is Cervejaria Ramiro. The giant tiger prawns never disappoint.

@suzired22 If you'd like to try a unique place in Lisbon (that's open on Mondays), we've taken several friends to By the Wine, fairly close to the Time Out market (touristy market) - it's owned by a wine producer, and has a great decor and excellent wine as well as limited menu of good food, especially charcuterie. Another option is Java, very close to Time Out market, a mediterranean/fusion kind of place with great cocktails. Also open on Mondays.

@suzired22 You're welcome - hope you like whichever one you pick. Food and wine is generally high quality around here - the main difference is ambience and things like cocktails and desserts - real Portuguese places tend to have very sweet desserts - so we tend to stick with cheesecakes and fresh fruits. Seafood is mostly excellent, but so is the meat. Some of the more traditional places serve a grilled pork dish that tends to be a bit overcooked for our taste, but the better restaurants do a good job. Most traditional places also offer a plate of the day at a very reasonable price, but it'll include both white rice and French fries.

@zoom Great recommendations. I would also add Lumi Restaurant & Bar. I shot this clip from their rooftop. Great food and service. https://youtube.com/shorts/gjkvZFjcJwY?feature=share They are open on Mondays. Reservations are highly recommended.

@jonesdn2020 oh yeah - that's on our list to check out too - though some of the restaurants with views seem to jack up their prices a lot, like BAHR & Terrace - good food and views, but really expensive, especially since they list their brunch items separately - pancakes are just pancakes - fruit is extra, etc - felt like we were in London or Paris...guess we're getting spoiled by Portuguese prices!
