Water shut off for apartment?

We purchased a new apartment in Tomar and have not been back to see it since signing the deed. Where would the main water shut off for the unit likely be?  My real estate agent is stopping by tomorrow and I would like him to confirm the water is off. My fear is getting the water transferred, it being turned on and there is a faucet on or worse, a leak inside while no one is there.  Of course I will have him check all the faucets.

Usually there's a safety faucet by the water meter.

Thanks Antonio.  Are the meters typically located inside the apartment, outside or in the garage?  Or, possibly any of those locations?

This can vary by building, so it's hard to be sure. Some (usually less recent) buildings have meter boxes in the wall more or less outside each apartment's front door. Sometimes, there is a cupboard somewhere on each landing with that floor's meters, or at least the isolation valves. In newer and/or larger apartment buildings, the meters tend to be in an external -facing service cupboard - but in that case, the valves may still be in a cupboard on each floor.  Hopefully, they were all clearly labelled when installed, so you know which is yours. The agent is probably familiar with all this, in any case.

@thomasribatejo Our really old Lisbon apartment has the water mains to each unit in the hallway covered by an aluminum dome but the reader and shut off is in a closet outside the bathroom. The electric is in there as well.

@jonesdn2020 Indeed, there can be different permutations!

Thanks everyone.  It was obvious once he got there.  The water meter was next to the elevators on the ground floor.  No water meter yet, which was good to know.  Gas and second water shut off in hallway on the apartment floor.
