Hello All
Does anybody know of an English speaking Driving School or Instructor near Viseu/Carregal do Sal/Tabua at all? And is it possible to take the Portuguese Driving test with an English speaking Examiner?
Any ideas most welcome!
Thanks

My neighbour told me a while ago that the Arganil school has an English speaking instructor. Test-wise... <insert shrug here>
Anyway, the yellow pages search I did to get the Arganil number comes up with a bunch closer to you. Make sure you insist on the lesson about stopping on a blind bend to say hello to José / take a pee / stretch your legs
This has been covered before and there were two different answers back.
Mine.
I went to the driving test center in Tabua, the regional test center, and they said that the theory had to be done in Portuguese as did the driving test.
Someone from the Algarve
They said that you could sit the test there in English

So, you were serious about wanting the plastic car back then! Does the driving school question raise another question? I haven't been looking, but I can't say I've noticed anyone driving on 'L' plates in private cars in Portugal, apart from driving school cars. Are people allowed to drive, accompanied, using any car?
You can only learn to drive in an approved driving school car, no going out with any relations etc.
I met someone this morning that has helped people pass their driving test, I asked her( in English) about English language tests and this is the reply I got.
“ The language of Portugal is Portuguese, not English.
The Dutch, the Germans and the Belgians learn our language but for reason the English don’t.
The theory test is only done in Portuguese, it’s done in a “Colegial” style and is multiply choice and it is designed not to be easy, unless you speak Portuguese you will not understand the question never mind the answer.
I have DVD’s that help people pass but they are only of use if you speak the language of Portugal”
