Hi,

We are already living in Portugal, but we are curious to what life is like in Tavira. Is there a big expat community? Any young families with small children?
I would love to hear all the good and bad about Tavira, from the local expats.
Thank you so much.

an algarve bird but not a tavira-liver but i can say,i take all my pals who visit,to tavira...its generally in the summer months and its ALWAYS teeming with grockles at that time. if you can tolerate the brashness and noise of the foreign holiday-makers then perhaps its the place for you! ps,its sooo beautiful though, thats why we go

Tavira is still much quieter than other parts of the Algarve, Cabanas is the centre of holiday accomodation and does have an all year round expat community but again much smaller than other areas.

Tavira has only now, i got its first large supermarket, it has nothing like the nightlife or restaurants of villamoura, Albufeira, Lagos etc.

Hi Emma P,

I lived in Tavira for 7 years, my son went to a village school and then to the main school in Tavira, there is a big expat community. We found it a lovely place to live when we moved to Portugal, still have lots of friends there and frequently go back for long weekends.

Grockles haven't heard that since leaving Devon 5 years ago.
Can't comment on ex-pat community but it is a lovely town. As are most places down here!
