Are there limits on "how many" (household/personal) items can be brought when moving (e.g., on D7 from the USA... with the intention of residency)? Assuming free of massive taxes/duty, etc.

If so, any difference if you enter based on EU citizenship?

L just thought she heard that less than a certain number of shoes can be brought into the country... and started to panic! 😉  Raises the question of "other" (more important) items.

And so goes the down-sizing program!

Are far as I'm aware, with the exception of cash, booze and smokes, there aren't any limits. However you might raise some questions if you try to bring in an greater number of anything that would appear to be in excess of what a household needs.
Re your wife's shoes the number deemed acceptable might vary depending on whether it's a male or female official processing the paperwork 😀.

No, it's based on where the goods are coming from rather than the nationality of the person bringing them.

@old-bloke .That was a great question on the number of shoes you can bring. I did a shoe count yesterday and it was 60, plus I already put some in a tub. I do plan to try to cut the 60 in half before shipping!

You cannot ship items into Portugal from the US duty free without being a recent resident. I believe there is a time frame involved as well. You can bring items in luggage for a trip in accordance with the guidelines @old-bloke mentioned.

I believe he also covered the fact that goods coming from the US even as an EU citizen are going to incur the same duty unless meeting the recent resident exemption?

Once you receive your resident permit you have 12 months to ship personal items to yourself, duty free.

I did not know that. Thanks for sharing that. We just started of by bringing like 6 suit cases and some carryons. We're going back to get more stuff in December.

A bit late replying here, but when we came from Singapore via Dubai to Lisbon on our D7 we had 120kg luggage, plus carry ons, which were of course only 8kg as per the requirement.......lol

Going though Customs no one was interested in us or our bags, which seemed to contain only shoes and handbags 🙂
