I moved to Sao Miguel Island in the Azores last August. I help off moving my household goods due to the high prices then. I was being quoted between $4000 and $9000 for just 300 cf (1/8th container partial load) and $15k and up for a full container. Those prices were door to door insurance not included. I read that prices had come down significantly so I got some new estimates and was shocked to get quotes 50% HIGHER than last August.

Is this was everyone else is seeing also?

Thanks!

The UPakWeShip website currently quotes 3 crates of approx 86 cf each, totaling 288 cf for $5908 for shipping Virginia to PT.  I have not used this service myself, but others on the Forum have recommended it.

Thanks. I may rethink sending anything here. I was hoping the prices would go down a bit instead of up.  I got 3 more quotes today all $5800 to $7000. Many places say they no longer ship to the Azores.

@daveinva Say - you've been in your new home for a few months now, I think.  Now that you know the lay of the land better and what's available locally, have you had any second thoughts as to what you do / do not want to ship?

@jeanne I've been here since last August now and been working on my house to make it  a bit more than 'just habitable' Still have tons to do. Still don't have a functional kitchen even though I have all new appliances.  I finally have all new plumbing and will soon be hooked up tp city sewer instead of the 'pit' out back. O also have one all new bathroom finally and the other is still apart.

The stuff that I want to bring over doesn't include any furniture. Its kitchen stuff, clothing and personal items.

I am a rabid audiophool so most of it is my home theatre and stereo stuff. Most of which is non-replaceable here. I designed and built all the speakers for both the stereo and 11.2 home theatre system and also designed and built some of the stereo equipment. Also included is over 3300 records. It's all in a climate controlled storage place for now.  I am converting the 33 x 19 foot old stone barn into a man cave to house it all. It's getting a new roof ext month and getting electricity and plumbing for the first time ever. And a half bath and kitchenette.

@daveinva I am an audiophile as well. I was building these amps electron_kinetics_eagle_2_power_amplifier in Lake Havasu City, AZ back in the 80's. We had all home-built speakers in our testing lab. Are you inviting Expats to the man cave grand opening?

@jonesdn2020 Back in the 80's I lived in Phoenix and was an engineer at Motorola for 29 years. During college I worked at Musicraft in Chicago  in the early 70's as a tech. I've always been into this stuff as my Dad got me into it. He was an engineer and later general manager at Grommes in the 50's and early 60's.

My current stereo speakers are electrostatic I originally built in 1999 and have improved them over the years. The amps are OTL tube that are my interoperation of the Atma-Sphere amps.  I also have  some Audio Research tube stuff.

I had also built a set using 4 Eminant Technology  planar drivers a side but decided they were to big and fragile to try and ship here so I traded them to a friend.

I would like to try and set up a club of expat audiophile though I am beginning to think I am the only one in the Azores.
