Hello Expat Portugal from Ed and Zoe, originally from UK.

We have fairly recently bought a home in a village near Gois - not moving here full time but will be spending decent chunks of the year in the area - we're loving the area, the weather and the friendliness.

The house is in pretty good shape but, after a few visits, we are starting to prioritise what does need doing - all things that I'm sure other forum members will have come up against. With that in mind, can anyone in the Gois area recommend trades/professional for the following:

(1) A decent architect /engineer to assist with a project to knock out an exterior wall and replace with windows.
(2) We need to replace the woodburner which will involve core-drilling through 50cm of schist and then reinstalling flue - has anyone had this done?
(3) Damp! Some plaster is blowing off the walls on ground floor - I'm pretty sure because the some kind of vinyl paint has been used which doesn't allow the walls to breath. An expert opinion would be better though.

Finally, we're keen road cyclists - does anyone know of any clubs/groups that ride out on a regular basis?

Looking forward to getting to know some of you!

Ed and Zoe

Hi Ed and Zoe

Hi and welcome to the Forum and to the Gois area.

I live 5k outside of Gois and i have been here for 8 years. There is a lady architect who has an office across the road from the Maytay here number is 966352776 her name is Patricia and she speaks some English i am told.

At the moment getting a builder is impossible as they can earn more money clearing land. If Santaanita see's this post he may reply with help.

Are you the people who I met in Villa Nova de Ceira?

You see lots of people cycling in the area but i don/t know of any groups so why not use the Forum to start a group and make more friends.

Peter

Hello Peter - I've only just seen your reply (I guess there must be a way to get notifications for replies!).

Thank you very much for your information - we'll certainly get in touch with Patricia.

We haven't been to Villa Nova de Ceira so I doubt it was us that you met there - no doubt we'll see you at some point though is you're that close to us.

Cheers

Ed
