Hi from UK, looking to buy
Hi, Nina and Henry from the UK. we've upgraded to the premium and are looking forward to find out more. We're hoping to buy somewhere soon (snap decision) and relocate as soon as we can. It's difficult to choose where and we love Tomar, Coimbra and Anadia. Exciting times for us! How has everyone else found it? We've so many questions that's for sure!
Hi Nina and Henry, welcome to the forum and thanks for joining as Premium Members. It really helps us keep this site going 🙂
When do you plan on coming? Do you have everything sorted?
I am just currently working with our immigration specialists call Ei! Migrante about a proposed webinar called:
Want to move to Portugal before Brexit? Here is how...
It is likely to be on the 10th or 17th September... just waiting for confirmation.
You may find it interesting.
We also have another webinar coming up about buying property. Could help too.
We have a lot of members in that region including Gerry and our host Carl. Hopefully, they will drop in soon and say hello.
Hi Astrid, thank you. Carl actually pointed us in the direction of expatsportugal and we thought it was such good value.
We're looking for a holiday home initially and will be back over towards the end of August to visit some more properties of interest.
We have nothing sorted yet so some advice on legal information, schools, etc, would be fantastic. We'll definitely sign in to the webinar as need to learn as much as possible!
Hello Nina and Henry.
As Astrid mentioned, I live near Tomar and I'll be glad to answer any specific questions you have on this area.
Meanwhile, good luck with your upcoming trip and your searching.
Hi Nina and Henry. I just saw you both on the programme with Carl earlier today. It was from a few days ago and I watched it on YouTube.
I knew where you were coming from with regards to saying it was possibly going to be cutting it too fine to get to Portugal and sorted before Dec 31st. My Hubby Andrew and I had the same dilemma as we only really started talking about this a few weeks back and toyed with the idea of trying to sell up quick and get over there as we know there’ll be a lot less form filling in 😂 In the end we decided it was probably a recipe for stress city so we’ve decided to wait to see if Brexit throws up any curve balls that we didn’t account for.
If all goes well we plan to sell up our home and rent in Portugal for about 6 months whilst we figure out where we would want to live and indeed if we are making the right decision although I can’t see us not wanting to stay 😁
I’ll be interested to see how you both get on too. Incidentally where abouts in the UK are you from? We’re currently in Whitby, North Yorkshire but originally from the North East, Newcastle. Happy hunting!
Elaine and Andrew
Hi sorry rubbish at checking in on things. Yes we echo the same sentiments. We feel it's the right thing to be doing but not sure on the logistics. Things seem to be coming together rapidly and we sold our house very quickly when we put it on the market so it appears meant to be.
We live in Teignmouth in the UK by the sea and have a lovely lifestyle but covid has really made us think about making some big lifestyle changes as it has with everyone I suppose.
We're back now looking at properties at the end of August. I think we might vlog about what we're doing but not sure how interesting it would be😂
- @gerry thanks we loved Tomar and we're viewing quite a few properties between there and Coimbra when we come back. We're hoping to find our perfect site. All advice welcome. We know we don't want to be too far from a city as our older kids won't visit if they can't get a bit of city vibe.
Oh I think you should do a vlog for sure. There aren’t many out there that are done by people like yourselves, basically in the midst of trying to get the ball rolling etc. They mainly seem to be done by people who’ve been through it all which is great and very helpful but sometimes you just want to hear about the nitty gritty as it’s going on.
We thought about doing one ourselves if we get over there and we said we’d make one that was more or less straight to the point with answers that people want to hear. More often than not we’ve been screaming at the screen on YouTube saying “get to the point” as some people do go off topic which is all well and good in some circumstances but at the minute we really just want to hear all the basic info that will help us decide if we can afford to move. We would be going as retirees with no plans to have to work therefore it’s important we know we can survive on what money we’ll have at our disposal.
We’d love to get over there mid September just for a week Corvid dependant so we’ll see what happens there.
Good luck if you do a vlog and maybe you can post the link on here. We for sure will be very interested 👍🏾
I live 20 minutes north of Tomar near Alvaiazere. My driving times to the main cities are
Coimbra: 40 minutes
Lisbon: 90 minutes
Porto: 95 minutes
All easy drives with fast open roads at least until you hit the cities! There are also good rail connections from this area to the cities although personally, I prefer the freedom of having the car.
Hope this helps
@gerry thank you for that offer Gerry. I think @nsjeffers are better placed to take you up on that now with them already having started the process so to speak. We’re still here in Blighty but we have just discussed maybe starting to document videos so that down the line we can add them to the beginning of our journey but as it stands now I don’t think we’d be able to add anything of interest to people as currently we’re just researching articles and asking questions on here 😂. However down the line I’m sure that type of info may be useful to people like us who are literally right at the beginning of things.
@chocolate the screaming at YouTube made me laugh as we've been the same. I'm sure if you can't say in 10 sentences then it's too boring to say. 😂
Not sure we could do better but up for giving it a go. I'm sure people would be put off by the chaos of us trying to move 4 kids aged 15 to 2 during covid.
We'll be keeping our business here as no where near retirement, so it will be interesting.
