Hi All

We are thinking of making a move to Portugal post Brexit under the golden visa scheme (assuming as seems pretty likely that the UK becomes a third party country).

Are there any other gay (male) couples on the forum?

Anyone been through the golden visa process who could give us some tips?

Many thanks

Mark and Lon

Hi Mark & Lon, welcome to the forum.

In relation to the Golden Visa Scheme, I have a friend who is currently in the middle of the process and commented to me that the fees for this visa are really expensive (his legal fees alone are around €25,000).

Not to say it isn't the right one for you, but have you considered the D7 (retiree or self-funded visa) as an option?

If you plan on staying in Portugal, this may be a better, cheaper and easier route for you. If you are just after EU residency but don't plan to live here, then the Golden Visa may be right.

Wow so much to learn.. I had never heard of the D7 residency but it certainly sounds appealling. I'll be doing a lot more reading.

We were indeed thinking of spending most of the year in Portugal and maybe even going for NHR tax status too.

Thanks for the tip.. much appreciated.

Take a look at this page with our recordings from previous webinars. There is one specifically about D7 and we will be having another one coming up in a few weeks time (just confirming date).

I think you will find a heap of information here.

I'm guessing though that like the Spanish non lucrative visa one of the stipulations is that we have to become tax resident in Portugal which I was hoping to avoid with the GV?
