Hello DB and Lauretta here. We are doing an exploratory trip to Portugal in two weeks for possible relocation. Landing in Porto train to Coimbra finishing in Lisbon. We are most interested in the Central Portugal. We can rent a car as needed to see areas that are less accessible by public transportation. Just looking for thoughts on good areas to see, both for relocation and general enjoyment.

Thanks in advance.

Central PT is quite a large and diverse area, are there any specific things you're looking for, nature, hiking, water sport, history, etc?

@old-bloke right at the moment we are looking primarily to find a place close to a city to rent for 6 months to a year. We aren’t to sure if Porto or someplace a little smaller. We are heading towards retirement so a bit slower but being able to get into town is good. Thanks for the reply.

And adding to what @old-bloke said, you want near of far the ocean, flat or hilly/mountain areas, etc? Portugal is small but diverse.

@antonio_f Wife is closer to the ocean or river. I’m a bit more open. Thanks for the reply.

Central Portugal has several rivers you might consider, like the Tejo (Tagus) coming from Spain and ending in Oeiras, the Mondego (passes Coimbra and ends in Figueira da Foz), the Vouga (ends in Aveiro), the Zêzere (joins the Tejo in Constância), The Lis (passes Leiria and ends in Vieira de Leiria). These areas are different in terms of temperature and landscape.
