Hi everyone, my wife and I are looking to move to Terceira (Azores) anytime between later this year and 3 years -- depends on how much longer my wife wants to work. Any advise/experiences you've had with the Azores is helpful. I'm retired military with Tricare insurance & a VA disability. We have 2 dogs and want a large yard for them. Anyone know about shipping items over from the mainland (furniture, etc)? I've been watching various expats sites for several years now but first hand experiences are always welcome. We're working with a local real estate agent but haven't found the right house yet. Considering building, there's a couple of good plots available.

Hi @lobster

Have you ever been in Ilha Terceira? Life there is certainly different from what you've experienced in the USA. In terms of weather, it's never to cold or to hot, but very humid. Very quiet place, and some people might feel "entraped" (limited by the sea).

We spent this past Christmas there and found the isle fits our lifestyle well. Folks there are friendly & helpful. We were in a shop where the clerk didn't speak english. They went outside and found someone who did and dragged them in to help us communicate -- what a wonderful experience. And it's always just a flight away from all of the EU. Yes, it's a temperate climate and humidity control is necessary. There is an Air Force base there so Americans are around. We also spent some time last summer traveling all around the mainland. That was very nice but housing costs for what we want are much higher vs the Azores. We've also spent time living/traveling in the EU over the past 15 years.

@lobster I also enjoyed living there (a long time ago...), but living there is not for everyone, that's why I asked.

Hope you really enjoy it.
