My husband and I just purchased a one story building in Gloria and we are looking for a licensed general contractor to help bring our design to life. We would love to work with a contractor that is based in the Alentejo region, if possible. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

The Alentejo region is big!

Your best bet would be to have a look in Estremoz, Vila Viçosa or Redondo.

As for "licensed" general contractors, Hmmm??

I've had a quick look on Google & very few local contractors have websites.

There appear to be several building suppliers locally in Estremoz. You could ask in there. They will know people.

You could also ask local architects.

Found this -

Also -

Duarte Sousa

Hope this helps.

I would start with the business directory listings. If they do not work in that area they may offer a vetted option for you.

In terms of licensing, there are a couple of sides to this:

1 - membership of relevant professional body (Ordem dos Engenheiros, Ordem dos Engenheiros Técnicos, Ordem dos Arquitectos, or an Associação, for some trades not having a "full" ordem)

2 - licensing by means of an alvará

The second is pretty much essential in any situation; the first is likely to be required of the primary contractor supervising a project for which planning permission etc is involved, and would be good practice in any case.

So, check that a contractor as a minimum has a relevant alvará; and if the work is of scale, their membership of a relevant ordem or associação would be advisable (and potentially required, if the câmara is involved).

I realise this doesn't answer the specific question - we have no contacts for that area that we can recommend, I'm afraid.
