Work and employment
I've been thinking of moving to Portugal for a number of years now, but I would need to work. I'm 48 and a teacher. What are the employment opportunities for someone like me?
Great having you as part of the forum.
I would suggest you reach out to some of the International Schools as they are in high demand right now and know some are recruiting.
In fact, another forum member contacted me last week telling me he has just secured a role and starts in September - a process done all online and very quickly.
Do you speak Portuguese? If you do, you could try the Portuguese system but I don't think they pay so well.
Also, do you have the right to work here? Not too sure where you are from.
Happy to give you names of some of the schools around Lisbon/Cascais which may be good to reach out. Please let me know if this is of interest.
Now is the time to apply though - as the summer school holidays start in 3 weeks and schools will be closed until September.
thanks very much, Astrid. No, I don't speak Portuguese (I speak Italian) but I can pick up bits and pieces!
An international school would be ideal. I'm an English teacher so working in an International school would probably be my best bet rather than the Portuguese system.
I'm from the UK - Bedfordshire.
If you have the names of any schools that would be fantastic. I'm not necessarily looking for any particular part of Portugal - I love it all! - so I'm not focusing on any area initially.
Thanks for the initial help!
@nataliem I will send you a PM with the International School I believe are looking for teachers.
Thank you. I don't think I will be able to make any moves for this September for a variety of reasons (!), but I am definitely interested for next year potentially.
Thank you so much for your help.
