Porto - Just Returned

Hey Gang

Just returned from an 8 night adventure in Porto to prepare for my upcoming move next spring. Had a cozy little studio in the Bonfim district, nice and quiet and off the tourist path.  Took advantage of the trip to do things as if I lived there so didn't do any "touristy" things.

My accomplished goals were....

Buy Metro tickets and ride the Metro to various places (Matosinhos, Airport, etc.)

Use my Millennium Bank debit card to withdraw money from a Multibanco from my Portuguese Bank account.

Shop at various markets to see selection and compare prices. (Continente, Pingo Doce and Lidl)

Purchase a portuguese SIM card and use it for the week. (Vodafone)

Did a lot of walking and enjoyed life for a week.  Cannot wait to return permanently.

Any questions, shoot them my way.

Jeff

Congrats on the successful trip!  Maybe an appearance on GMP could be in order?

In Porto you must also check the Mercadona supermarket (good prices).

Glad you liked your week here.

Hi Michele

Gonna try and jump on the Morning Show with Carl. Hopefully can give more insights there. I'll work on an update for this thread as well.

Will you choose Bonfim for your residence? Why or why not? We are planning to not have a car in Porto; will that be fairly easy? Looking forward to hearing more about your experience!

Hi Andrew

That is my plan yes...Bonfim was my choice for this trip based on the feedback from Josh & Kalie (Expats Everywhere)

It's a great district/neighborhood that is off the tourist path yet close enough to walk everywhere.

I'm planning no car as well and found the city very walkable. There are lots of ups and downs but it's good for the heart 😉
