Attorney to Review Real Estate Docs

I am about to start the process of buying a flat and an attorney was recommended to me. They want at least 3,000 euros to do this and that sounds outrageous. Maybe there is a misunderstanding as I just want them to review and help me understand the documents. Unless they have to do a power of attorney for me to sign them. I would like to know what other people have run across with this. Thanks!

That is outrageous, but I was quoted some similar amounts 5 years ago. Some lawyers claim this is because they'll support you with other immigration things - fine, perhaps, if you need that. The last time I used a lawyer for this purpose, in 2020, the total was some way under €1000 including IVA and expenses (not including notary costs and stamp duty etc, of course).

@thomasribatejo Thank you! I was expecting something like 500 euros. I don't need support with other immigration things.

@stilllifewithcats The guy I've used several times is (was recently, at any rate) 700-800€ plus IVA and any other expenses (sometimes a document fee, maybe some mileage if the notary is not local to him).

@thomasribatejo Where is he located? This property I'm looking at is in Ponte de Lima. I actually sent the information to you by email. I understood from Vitor that some documents can't be done online and I will have to have a power of attorney. I was thinking I would need one to tell me what I am signing.

@stilllifewithcats The guy I use is based in Lisbon and Tomar, dividing his time.  The only time a lawyer normally needs to go anywhere is for the notary at completion, and this may not be local to the property in question (for example, if the sellers live in Porto or Lisbon, they may insist it happens there - we've twice bought +/- 2 hours from Lisbon, yet done the notary there) so the distance may not be the most significant factor.  That said, you should be able to find someone reasonable, closer.
