They are light on the details, but the idea is limiting the months up front at two!! maximum-rent-deposit-limited-to-2-months We will see how this pans out.

not sure what that actually refers to. Normally you would pay 2 months rent and 1 months deposit...so is it limiting the upfront rent or the deposit?...either way can't they then just ask for more of the other. ie if upfront rent limited to 2 months then they ask for more in deposit. If its deposit limited to max of 2 months rent then they just ask for more rent upfront?...or is it limiting both to 2 months?..article is a bit ambiguous

@blaze451 This video really addresses some of the nuances of leases in Portugal portugal-rental-and-lease-law-with-daniel-reis You are paying rent in advance. I don't know what will happen with the security deposits, but the issue has been landlords asking for more advance rent payments. There is also the issue of a 748-is-a-guarantor-required-for-rental-contracts-in-portugal which the advance rents were averting.

If the Government caps advance rents at 2 months, I would imagine we will see more landlords wanting a guarantor.

@blaze451 Those exist, but are VERY old contracts, and usually those houses are in very bad conditions, waiting for the tenant to die. At that moment, the house is renovated and goes to a new tenant, on normal market's rent.

@blaze451 Yes, I read it. In addition to what @Antonio_F commented I wonder how many of these are being reported to Finance at the 20 euros rate and the real rate is much higher. I have seen posts on the forums where the landlords are declaring a much smaller rent to Finance then they are getting paid.
