Cartão de contribuinte online?

Apparently I should have a Cartão de Contribuinte, at least when I'm driving so that I have something official with my NIF on it.

Before I go and queue at the local tax office, can anybody confirm if I can apply for this online somehow?
Or is there an easier way to obtain it please?

For a personal NIF you have to apply in person.

The only alternative to a tax office is one of the Lojas or Balcãos do Cidadão which provide the service (not all do, apparently, but I'm having trouble locating a list right now).

I tried yesterday in Palmela, took a print of the document above, but was told politely and with authority that this card doesn't exist. I need to use the printed paper they provide etc

On the positive side, there was no queue at all 😉

Ah - I thought you were after being issued a number, rather than specifically the card.

But now you mention it, I remember that it's all been rolled into one for PT citizens in the form of the Cartão do Cidadão, which we can't have. Didn't realise they'd actually stopped issuing the separate cards altogether, though.

Useful to know.

I have copied a post from the British Embassy's FB page which may be of interest:

'Did you know you can print a card with your fiscal number on it? If you’d like a “cartão e-fatura”, log on to the “E-Fatura” portal and click on " Obter Cartão E-Fatura". You can print, cut out and laminate the card to carry in your wallet and show whenever you need to:

Hope this helps.
