Hi. have been out of touch due to covid and with problems back in the UK haven't had time till now to catch up

However since at last getting back to Portugal ,i am having big problem with the water company Águas do Planalto ,in not taking payment via debit card etc .but wanting me to somehow send them a recite that I have paid

Have been without water now for a week, as they cut off the supply in July without drawing the money from my bank as usual via direct debit   Not even sending me notification, as they used to via email that after 2 year without occupation they had a problem with payment of the standing charge of €27p/m

Is it possible to use another water company as in the UK or is it like a monopoly for a area

peter

As far as I know, each area has its own water company.

Water companies here are either the municipality, or a company to which the municipality has outsourced its water services - there is no choice of supplier.

If you're in Portugal now, I would advise going to their offices to resolve the issue - it's typically much more likely to succeed than online/phone means.

@thomasribatejo

Hi managed to get through to them Monday morning via email, but had to bank transfer direct from my bank account to pay last month bill which they forgot to collect via direct debit  plus their reconnection charges as dont seem to have heard of payment by card, but hopefully tomorrow should see us connected

Which is a bit better than four years ago when we had similar problems, when i rang and asked the operator if anybody spoke any English, and was told NO! and they rang off
