Lola and I had our SEF meeting in Coimbra yesterday. We have our temporary permits.

A few observations: SEF is located in a municipal building in Coimbra that houses many services. SEF is upstairs on the red level. No need to pull a ticket. If you have an appointment, they will call your name.

Be sure to sit/stand where you can clearly see the faces of the clerks in the 4 stations dedicated to SEF. It's a chaotic environment and difficult to hear them call names. We had 11:00 and 11:30 appointments. My name was called at 12:15. The clerk handled both of us at the same time. That seemed to be the norm.

Our clerk did not speak English, which I think turned out to be an advantage. They were super busy, so I don't think she was not looking for reasons to ask questions. She just got to work.

I waaaaaay over-prepared. She handed back at least 3/4 of the stuff I brought.

She was interested in these things:

Application

Passports

NIFs

3 months bank statements

Proof of private health insurance

Attestation from local gov't proving we live in Aveiro (easy to get)

The whole process took about 30 minutes because of clerk stuff like copying and such. Lots of staring intently into the computer screen, too. Photos, fingerprints, and signature taken on a machine. Hilariously, both of our fingerprints failed, but she just waved it off.

And we left with our temporary permits 🙂

Was the "Application" the same as the Visa Application that we used at Consulate or is there a separate application?

@tonymac There's a separate application for the SEF meeting. You get it from the SEF website. Short, one page, and in Portuguese.

RequerimentoAR_2018.pdf (sef.pt)

@aclinemissouristate-edu Ei! hand wrote everything on the application for the SEF appointment and told us it had to be that way. Did you do that as well?

@jonesdn2020 We didn't involve Ei in the SEF meeting. We filled out the form in the way that it seemed necessary.

@aclinemissouristate-edu In handwriting or on the computer? We had filled in the application on our computer as a backup and were told they would not accept that.

@jonesdn2020 I filled out the .pdf on the computer. I left the one check box for the type of permit unchecked. And i left it unsigned. I figured both of those could be done at the meeting. Seemed to be no problem. the clerk checked the box and we signed.

Thank you Andrew for posting.  I live in the Algarve and have a Lisbon appointment, however I have no address for the SEF location. Does anyone know the address? Also, is there a number or an email to contact SEF as only one of us has the appointment as no date was provided on his D-7.  Thanks  Patti

@tonymac Several of us attended SEF at this location in Lisbon https://goo.gl/maps/9rvvV2zWtmUdNVtb9 and it has a phone number listed.

@tonymac Our visa has a web address listed. That address gave our specific appointment and address. It's possible yours does not have that address because Portugal is restructuring SEF. I think the end of March is the "end" of SEF.

@aclinemissouristate-edu My visa web page has an address - but it's wrong.  I didn't go see what was there, but the SEF balcão in Coimbra is a block or so away in the Loja do Cidadão, as I expect it has always been.
