Lease agreement evidence for D7 visa (sponsorship options?)

How many here have gone through the D7 visa process and rented a place, sight-unseen, in order to fulfill the D7 visa requirement?

I ask because it might be our only choice.

Our last trip to Portugal in March 2020 didn't go so well and we headed home to Salt Lake City, Utah, empty-handed to wait out the pandemic.

Now we are getting back on track to move and retire to Portugal.

We understand there are services that can search for rentals to provide feedback on the conditions and the general accommodations. That's one option.

But is there a service that offers a sort of sponsorship (like maybe a guest house, month-to-month rental) in order to establish a quasi-lease agreement and an address for the D7 while looking for a legitimate long-term rental?

Does that even make sense?

Staying at an Airbnb while finding the right place would be ideal but I don't think that qualifies for the D7.

Does anyone have a solution for this?

Thanks in advance...

I came to Portugal from Canada on a regular type 1 visa 4 years ago. I think what I did may work for you too. I booked an Airbnb for one month while I looked around for an apartment. I extended my airbnb stay until I moved in. My airbnb host offered a short term rental agreement that allowed me to get my tax number (nif) and open a bank account. By the time my SEF appointment took place I had moved to my new place and presented the rental agreement. I hope this helps!

@louis63 Sorry for the late reply and thank you.

We are looking into a couple of options that might  be provided by the firm that will help with our moving process.  I like your idea and process.  It would probably work out that way and we will keep it in mind.

All the best,

Jay

@louis63

Hello Louise, were you able to use the airbnb as your address for the process of getting the NIF?
Thanks

Ana

@anavieira yes I was. Note that I signed an actual fix duration rental contract of 3 months for the same apartment after the initial one month with airbnb ended.
