A big hello and thank you for all of the time that you have put into this website.  My wife and I are astounded by your devotion to the expat community.

I will be coming over from the U.S. as a retiree and this is now starting from scratch.

We have always supported little businesses; we do not support the 'industrial model' of anything.  This is how we do things.  It is not always the easiest way.  For instance, try buying online while avoiding Amazon.

We are a looking for a small, competent law firm to see us through our immigration process.  The operatives are 'small' and 'competent'.  While I am sure the Ei and Lexidy give excellent service, we feel that they are 'migration mills' and would prefer to avoid them.  However I am very happy for you-all that you have found a sponsor in Ei.

Ideally, we are trying to hear from several people who have worked with small law offices and who have either positive of negative reviews to share.  For instance, we attempted to use yelp.com to research 'lawyers' in Lisbon and came up with 9 pages, some of whom were immigration lawyers, but there were no reviews (to speak of) in all of the nine pages.

You are perhaps our best hope for networking in this fashion.

May you all be safe, well and happy,

Buckley and Nat

Dear Buckley & Nat

Thank you for joining and welcome to our community. We appreciate your kind comments but must address a few points in your message above.

We carefully select our associate partners on the basis of their quality, reputation and professionalism. We also work with them on a continual basis to improve the services offered to our members. In the case of our recommended visa specialists (Ei!) and lawyers (Reis & Pellicano), they are both small, privately owned companies, extremely good at what they do and our members are referred directly to the owners who are hands-on operators.

We would never describe either of these companies as 'migration mills' and we do not have any association with Lexidy - never heard of them!

Ei! are not our sponsor and we are unclear as to how that conclusion could be reached.

You mentioned that you found 9 pages of lawyers in Lisbon but no reviews. Yet if you read through this forum you will find plenty of reviews on the services offered by our associates. You will also see that where there has been an issue (which is rare), we will step in and help resolve. Also, if you take a look through the recording s of our webinars with our associates, you will see the actual owners talk about their businesses and answer direct questions from our members.

I hope this will help to clarify any misunderstandings 😊

Kind regards

Gerry

Allow us to rephrase this.

If anyone reading our post would like to share their experiences with the agencies that shepherded them through the immigration process, we would like to hear from you.

Most helpful would be a reply that we all could learn from, but if you are shy, a PM could reach us by clicking on our name.  We have read the 'Forum Ettiquette' and this seems to be allowable.

Hi Buckley and Nat, I am using Ei! for my migration process with visa application that will be made at the end of this year. I have been a "localvore" in all regards for 20 years. I am from the US and have lived in many corners of the US, from Idaho to New Hampshire to Colorado and California. Let me assure you that the feel and response from Ei! has been fantastic. In fact I e-mailed them recently to see if they could help me get into the country due to border closings with a letter and was told probably not given my situation. I subsequently received an unsolicited letter from the owner suggesting that in fact maybe they could and were looking into it. So, clearly they communicate with each other because my first e-mail went to the administrative assistant. The other responses related to my NIF, bank account, any questions etc have been fantastic and answered promptly. You can pick and choose as you wish but my words of wisdom are this, pick your battle wisely. Portugal is a small country, mostly everything there is local. As a person of 100% Portuguese heritage, be careful of the words you use, a good Portuguese friend is a friend for life. They/we are very proud people, work hard, are very kind and compassionate. They are not stupid however; offend or treat them poorly and you will receive a mirrored response. Hope this helps.
