Spoke to the Brexit help line yesterday (got through on the first attempt!)and was informed that emails with appointments had been sent to people in Cascais and the rest of Lisbon would follow very soon.

Have any British people in Cascais Municipality received an appointment from SEF to have their biometric data done? Just curious as I have not seen anything on other forums or in the media about people attending appointments and receiving Residence Cards.

@wt Hi Wendy

I went for my interview in Lisbon today.

I was asked, whilst waiting, to complete a piece of paper with

  • Fathers Name
  • Mothers Name
  • NIF
  • NISS
  • SNS
  • Telephone number
  • Address

The only mandatory document they required from me was my passport. You can supply just the numbers for NIF/NISS/SNS (and for SNS/NISS,  they did say "if you have them").

The passport I got back once they checked the details corresponded.

However as with all things Portuguese, paper is "essential" so I suggest taking a copy of anything with you if you have it.

The person I saw made no request for proof of address but again if you have a utiliy bill (seems to be the main one as they requested the same for my driving licence), bring it.

The CRUE they did not require (but I had it anyway!)

The rest was for the Biometrics.

I was told to wait 48 hours, go back to the website where I booked the appointment and make payment. Once complete I will be posted a residents card within 60 days.

Hope this helps

Ian

hi all,

Just to let you know I have completed my appt to get my residency a few hours ago.

I took everything I thought I might need.

When I arrived in the Pombal office, they knew who I was even before I took my number, super nice and all spoke English. They were being trained and I was their 3rd person to go through the process.

I was asked for my passport and then asked to complete a form with the following details:

Mother and fathers names,

My NIF

NISS ( I didn't have one, it wasn't a problem)

Numero Utente - Health number

Mobile number and address and profession.

While they were entering that in the system, they took me over to get my photo taken and my fingerprints done and an electronic signature.

Afterwards I was told that I could go onto the www.brexit.sef.pt/ in 48 hours to withdraw a billing document and pay the fee.

After payment the document will be sent to my address.

That was it. The only thing I needed to show was my passport.

Highly recommend the Pombal office, its new and everyone seems eager and kind.

Good luck!

@suziq

What did they do with your passport? We have spent time out of Portugal for birth of a baby and were stuck due to Pandemic restrictions. So I am worried if they will ask questions regarding time spent in Portugal. Let me know, thanks.

@tinuviel Similar situation here, would be great if people who have already had the appointment could provide some more info on if any info was scrutinized

@tinuviel I'm pretty sure they just confirmed the picture matched me and took down the number. They were training so 4 women and the trainer, he said in Portuguese to them. "Once you get the information, you should be able to complete each person in 5 minutes". They didn't look at any stamps. Just commented by hair was different, in a friendly way.

Update on the process!

When I left the appt, they gave a paper saying I was to go to the www.brexit.sef.pt/, login and after 48 hours to get the factura to pay for the residencia. Once paid for then the document (residence) would be sent to me.

Well, it hasn't been posted to my profile. The phone number on the bottom of the slip of paper with the instructions is constantly busy and its impossible to get through.

So one week after my appointment, I have no way of checking on my factura and can't pay for it, which means they won't send my card! So frustrating.

Did anyone else get their factura? How long did it take after the appointment?

@suziq What is the fee please ?  Please  can anyone answer the question about how to register  for health ?  Do we just show up at local health centre and ask to regsityer or is it an online national registration system  ? I looked into private insurance but cost was prohibitive and excludes existing conditions

Hi

We have our appointment coming up. Like another poster here, we don't have a health number. Is it difficult to obtain and is it on the spot?

Apart from that we have non-resident NIFs. Those were just the ones issued to us years ago and we have just carried on. Any problems? Any issues if we don't have a 'resident' NIF or tax history?

How long is the appointment at SEF? We will be taking three children under 10. Much waiting around? Are the resident cards issued on the spot?

Trying to be an organised parent! Thanks!

@tinuviel You may need to go to the tax office (AT) to change the tax number to resident. You will need to start filing tax forms each year. Best to get an accountant for that. I wasn't asked any questions about my taxes but I did give them my NIF.

As I mentioned, it was quick done in 10 minutes, including photos and fingerprints. You have to have an appointment. They send you an email and ask you register on the SEF website and then you get to select a day and time on the website.

Afterwards I was told that I could go onto the www.brexit.sef.pt/ in 48 hours to withdraw a billing document and pay the fee. The card is then sent in the post upon receipt of payment.

My husband and I got our appointments emails today, for Porto, but we will be leaving Portugal next year and are wondering if we should go ahead with it. It's over an hour away plus the cost, plus giving all that info/biometrics when we probably won't need it!  Does anyone know if it is a legal requirement to exchange it even if you are leaving soon?

@debby123 No, it's not obligatory. You'll continue to be legally resident as long as you remain here, even without the card.
