@donn @miket If a Floridian declares New York residency to avail himself of services in New York, that could open up a world of hurt in the future if the New York tax authorities get wind of it, even if continuing ties with Florida. Weighing the expense of a quick visit to DC versus formally convincing New York that you don't owe them taxes on your income from now to whenever they get around to pursuing you, it's probably less costly (and definitely less risky) to play it straight and keep with the Florida address for now. Just my two cents (not advice of any kind), but Florida is generally a decent home base from which to pursue a move abroad. Meddling with other states that require income reporting, tax returns, and tax payments, can complicate matters even after moving overseas.
