Hi everyone,
Do they have early and main crop seed potatoes here? I would like to plant some earlies but I am sure the varieties are different here. Does anyone know the names of the varieties and any recommendations? I could look out for these when next at the market.

Mrs. T. would like an "all purpose" spud - for chipping/mash/boiling/roasting.

Cheers! :)

Interesting question topmast; I've seen 'seed' :?: potatoes in the local market. No idea of varieties here in Portugal, only know whatever they are, they don't seem to store very well! :(

Do you by any chance have any helpful relatives in the UK? I ask because now is the time for buying potatoes over there. :D

I don,t think that you can " import " seed potatoes into Portugal or the UK for that matter unless they come certified as pest and virus free ( maybe not even then ).

Thanks for the replies.
Emm, I dont want to import a potato from the UK. I agree it is not legal and can understand why. I want to grow one or more varieties that are grown here, but I didn't know what variety to ask for.

I know spuds are cheap enough to buy but there is nothing like having those first new spuds of the year with lashings of butter cooked and eaten half an hour after you have dug them! :D

I suppose I will have to take "pot luck" if nobody has any suggestions for varieties.

We have had two goes at potatoes, first ones were not too bad, second lot were a waste of space. I am sorry but I don't remember the varieties. This year (if it ever stops raining) I am going to go to the suppliers, make a note of the varieties and then google them.
