Olive harvesting ?

Hello there, we are harvesting olives from our trees, about 10 of them, the neighbours are doing theirs so we thought we'd better get on with it too. I think we'll end up with 5 large buckets/trugs. I've kept some larger ones to brine, but can anyone advise where to take the rest of them? I heard that it's possible to exchange them for olive oil? We are in Serra near Tomar. Thanks Mandy and Gez

You need to find your local lagar (olive pressing place) - you take your olives there, they press them and you get the oil, less an amount they keep as payment for the pressing. I think some have a minimum quantity that they will take for a pressing, if you don't have enough you might be able to combine yours with others and take a proportion of the oil that is produced.

Try asking your neighbours where they take theirs.
