Sorry everybody but I can't find any answer to this already so:

We are looking to move this year and want to purchase a number of fruit trees.
Possibly 30 or more.

Can we have some suggestions for the best places to get these please.

Thanks in anticipation

Graeme

Hi,
It would help to know where you will be located.
For instance, we have planted about 50 fruit trees in the 8 years we´ve been here -
most of which have survived and we are reaping the fruit.
We bought all ours, a few at a time, at the general market held every Friday in Tomar.
There are several vans selling fruit trees. There is bound to be a similar market near
where you move.
Or Agriloja shops sell them (a bit more expensive, but still cheap compared to UK prices) and
again there is bound to be one near you. Other people buy from garden centres/nurseries.

If you give a location somebody from that area may have a better idea for you.

Hi Graeme,
If you are looking to buy 30 or so at the same time, it is worth a trip to the huge nursery at Foz de Arouce on the M552 a few kms north of Lousa. That is where the market traders buy their stock from, but they are also happy to sell to the general public.
You can see the nursery on Google maps at 40.161045, -8.268001.
Cheers
Graham

Hi Graeme

I know it is not near you but there is a B&Q type store in Arganil called O Vaso. A while ago I helped a friend collect some fruit trees in total in two trips we got about 250 in total and they only cost 2.5€ each. The trees where between 4 to 8 ft in height twelve months later he had only lost 7 trees. All was well till the recent fires when his whole valley was destroyed.

O Vaso are on Facebook and driving from Gois it is easy to find and if you need directions just ask. I am in Liverpool at the moment and Googleearth doesn't show Longtitude and Latitude on my IPad.

Good luck.

Peter
