Football (soccer) refereeing

My primary past-time is officiating (refereeing) football (soccer to Americans). I'd hate to give it up when we move to Lisbon next year, but I've been unable to find out how to qualify as a referee in Portugal or if my 20+ years of experience will count there. I'm happy just doing youth or amateur adult matches, but there's no information I can find anywhere on the qualification process. I know this is a very particular question, but I'd be very grateful if anyone can point me in the right direction.

Hi, sorry I don't know anything specific about Lisbon but there are a lot of football clubs in Portugal at all levels. Where I live our team competes in the district league but there are several teams, not just the seniors but boys and girls teams of various age categories. I've attached a link to the Portuguese football federation website and the Associação Portuguesa de Árbitros de Futebol. I'd suggest making contact with one or two of the smaller teams near where you plan to live and when you move here go to a few games to meet people there.

I agree with Pam. There are futebol clubs all over Portugal. There's one right behind our apartment in Lisbon. It's great since we can watch the games from our window. Their field is pretty busy almost every day with all age groups. Here's a link to their facebook page:

edit: Apparently you have to be logged in to facebook to see the page. Just search for "Sport Futebol Palmense"
