We will be bringing  our car across from the UK to Portugal via the santander  ferry.  We are looking at our route and there seems to be road closures   Around Salamanca  (e80) and one other. Has any one done the route from santander  to coimbra  recently.  Any info would be much appreciated   Can anybody  advise.  Plus any tips such as good accommodation, were we can refuel and we're we can get a good meal.

I can't help on the road closures, but Tordesillas is a lovely stop, as is Ciudad Rodrigo, and both have a good range of services.  There are cheaper petrol places on the outskirts of Salamanca if you want to fill up before Portugal.  This site is helpful for petrol prices: https://www.dieselogasolina.com/

Hi there, we returned to Portugal via Santander, E80, Salamanca, crossing the border at Vilar Formosa. Currently, and also last November and recently in early June, it said the road was closed at Vilar Formosa. This was not the case. There have been major road works there for two years now but always with local diversions in place as this is a major border crossing point for lorries and traffic to the north and central Portugal. Not sure about between the A25 and Coimbra though.

Hope this assists, PLL

Thank you!
Did you need to show or have a Covid test?

There were no border controls in place when we passed through two weeks ago. However, we did have negative pcr test certificates to hand, just in case, as this was the requirement for entry to Portugal at the time.

As we mentioned in a previous post, we are currently driving a UK plated car and have noticed a higher propencity for GNR to stop us, check our paperwork and the car generally - so we have taken a 'belt and braces' when travelling across the border.
