The challenge of finding a rental in Portugal

When applying for most visas, you will need to demonstrate you have accommodation in Portugal. When it comes to rentals, not just any will do, there are also particular requirements that must be met. Unfortunately, failure to meet these requirements is likely to result in the rejection of your application.

And what about finding a place you actually like?! With rising prices and rentals in short supply, especially in Portugal’s larger cities, this is even more problematic, particularly if you are still required to be in your home country, but also require proof of your address in Portugal as part of your visa application process!

From community feedback, we know it is currently one of the most challenging hurdles and one where mistakes can be costly. Unfortunately, the desperate search many must go through has also led to an increasing number of scams targeting foreigners. Some may be overpaying, but others have lost thousands of euros for apartments that do not even exist!
