Didn’t know that Pam. Thanks. Another reason to visit. On the list when lockdown ends.

Many favourites, but one range I really like (especially the sparklings, alvarinhos and rosé) is from Quinta de Carapeços ( https://quintadecarapecos.pt/en/home/ ) in the Vinho Verde region.

I like their reds a lot as well, but the reds from this region would not be to the taste of someone who likes the more fruity and jammy style of the New World and Alentejo.

The Palmela region is the region (in my opinion) with the best wines in Portugal best value for the money and the one i always buy. The land is very sandy (very good for the vines) and with hot summers and wind winters that come from Atlantic ocean.

The moscatel (sweet wine) there is to die for.

The name of some wine houses there, like Bacalhoa, Ermelinda Freitas, Pegões and Comporta.

The wine house Ermelinda Freitas win many prizes at international wine competitions.

I just discovered a lovely red gratis my landlord which is a wine local to Porto. Not all wines in Porto are ports, by the way!

Wine … maybe I’m not discriminating enough.  Here’s one that you won’t like, because no one but me likes dessert wines and even for me this just OK, but there’s a story —

George Plantagenet, Duke of Clarence, was “privately executed” by his brother Edward IV in 1478, in the Tower of London.  Rumor at the time, preserved in Shakespeare’s “Richard III”, had it he was drowned, in a butt of “malmsey” — malvasia, a grape used predominately in Madeira wine.  If this is the first time someone has used his name, or title anyway, for a Madeira wine … you saw it here.

Obtained at Pombal Lidl, 6 August 2023, for ca. €10 if I remember right.  Region and type would be Madeira.  Much more info in the attached image, if it’s actually going to show up as not at all promised by preview.
