What are some of your favorite phone apps you use in Portugal?

I’ll start:  Anda.

App for using public transportation in and around Porto.

Our top three: Google maps, Continente and Bolt. We don’t have difficult to navigate public transportation in Lisbon 😎

Here’s a few: WhatsApp (messaging), DeepL and MS Translator (real-time translation), Windy and IPMA (weather), Uber (rides), MobiCascais (bus schedules), CP (train tickets), NordVPN, Wise (exchange rates), Millennium (banking/MBWay), Memrise (language lessons), Pingo Doce and Continente (groceries), SNS-24, MyCUF, and AdvanceCare (health/prescriptions). Just for starters 😉.

I use Moovit for transports (it shows transports in several cities), Fogos.pt (very usefull during the fire season, if you go the countryside), e-fatura (check and register your bills for tax purposes), among others already mentioned before.

I’m not sure in which areas it works, but in the Lisbon district, Citymapper lets you know the live bus/tram arrival times. I find that very handy as outside of the centre, it is mainly buses, and anyway, sometimes the bus route is quicker than the train/metro, but not when you are waiting for a scheduled bus that is running late and stuck at a stop with no arrivals board!

It is also a journey planner, but I prefer Google maps for that. Although Google Maps also shows arrival times, it doesn’t seem to be live, as accurate, or something, but Google maps is my overall favourite app. Great to plan journeys, use street view, check reviews and save places to visit on your lists.

In addition to the supermarket apps already discussed, I would add Lidl Plus in which you also get some coupons and can see a copy of your latest receipts, or opt for paperless.

For any supermarket you go to, it’s worth checking if there’s an app because there are often coupons for anything from 5 euros back in store credit to 10%-15% off your whole shop

OLX for us! And Idealista for dreaming of more property projects. OLX is like Gumtree in the UK, or Craigslist in the USA, like Facebook Marketplace, but I would guess larger. All your second hand stuff basically, we use it furniture and furnishings often.
