Weather in Portugal
Weather
Portugal is one of the sunniest countries in Europe boasting on average around 300 days of sunshine per year!
You can expect warm weather throughout the whole of Portugal, but the climate does vary from the north to the south and from the mountains to the coast.
In the north, the Gulf Stream provides mild winters and warm summers. The south is where you’ll find Mediterranean weather, with scorching hot summers and very mild winters.
The further inland you go, the hotter the summers will be, but the temperature will drop more come winter – you can even see snow in inland Portugal.
The Algarve is the country’s southernmost and most famous region, with summers that are particularly sunny and dry with up to 12 hours of sunshine every day. This sunshine is accompanied by average max temperatures of 28°C and a minimum of 20°C. It’s very similar in the northern regions, just with slightly lower temperatures and 11 hours of sunshine.
You’ll also enjoy a cool sea breeze closer to the coast and further north.
